Vera H. Price, M.D., F.R.C.P.(C)
Dr. Price is a Professor in the Department of Dermatology, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is Director of the UCSF Hair Research Center and Director of the UCSF Hair and Nail Clinic. Dr. Price received her medical degree from the University of Toronto, Canada, and trained in Dermatology at New York University Postgraduate Medical School. After moving to California, Dr. Price was a research dermatologist at UCSF, and spent three years doing basic research on the structure and biochemistry of human hair with the wool chemists at the Western Regional Research Laboratory of the United States Department of Agriculture in Berkeley, California. This subsequently led to her expertise and subspecialty in hair and hair biology.
Dr. Price’s research interests include immunopathologic and genetic studies in alopecia areata, histologic and molecular studies in cicatricial alopecia, hormonal regulation of the hair follicle, quantitative methods of estimating hair growth, structural hair shaft anomalies, and special aspects of Afro-American hair. She is credited with describing several new hair disorders. She has been engaged in extensive clinical research including numerous studies with finasteride and minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia. She has authored 108 publications.
Dr. Price has been visiting professor and guest lecturer at numerous universities in the United States and abroad. She has served as a Director of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). She is a founding member and past President of the North American Hair Research Society. In 2004 she received the Mentor of the Year Award from the Women's Dermatologic Society.
She is co-founder of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF), and the Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation (CARF). She has voluntarily served as Chairman of the Board of both of these non-profit organizations, and has devoted thousands of hours to ensure their progress and success in their research efforts and patient support. Without her dedication and leadership, the NAAF and CARF would not exist.
Janet L. Roberts, MD, Dermatologist, Clinical Research Scientist and Clinical Professor of Dermatology
Dr. Roberts’ distinguished career in clinical hair specialty and clinical research in hair disorders has spanned three decades. She has an extensive body of clinical research including in-depth research on finasteride and minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia, which resulted in numerous publications.
Along with her clinical practice specializing in diagnosing and treating hair disorders at Northwest Dermatology and Research Center, Dr. Roberts is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Oregon Health Sciences University, where she received the School of Medicine Alumni Association Meritorious Achievement Award in 2000. In 1979, she established and directs the Hair Disorders Clinic for teaching Dermatology Residents.
Dr. Roberts is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology; a member, previous Board Member, and prior Secretary-Treasurer (2002-2006) of the North American Hair Research Society; a prior member (2000-2007) of the Scientific Advisory Council of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation; a member, past President, and prior Secretary-Treasurer of the Oregon Dermatology Society; a member of the Society for Investigative Dermatology, the Oregon Medical Association, and the Women’s Dermatology Society among others.
Dr. Roberts received her B.A. from Whittier College with high honors, M.D. from University of California at San Francisco, and residency training at Oregon Health and Sciences University.
Mark G. Lebwohl, M.D.
Dr. Mark Lebwohl graduated summa cum laude from Columbia College in 1974 and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1978. He completed residencies in internal medicine and dermatology, both at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Lebwohl has been practicing dermatology since 1983. He is professor and chairman of the Department of Dermatology of The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Lebwohl has served as president of the New York Dermatological Society, the Manhattan Dermatologic Society, and the New York State Society of Dermatology, and as chairman of the Dermatology Section of the New York Academy of Medicine. Dr. Lebwohl has served as chairman of the Psoriasis Task Force of the American Academy of Dermatology, and has directed the AAD’s annual Psoriasis Symposium, Diagnostic Update Symposium and Therapeutics Symposium. He was a member of the Scientific Assembly Council, and chaired Academy 2001 in California and the AAD annual meeting in Washington, D.C. in 2004. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the AAD for 2010-2014.
Dr. Lebwohl is chairman of the Medical Board of the National Psoriasis Foundation. He is the founding editor of Psoriasis Forum as well as medical editor of the bulletin of the National Psoriasis Foundation, Psoriasis Advance. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and was editor of the Dermatology Section of Scientific American Medicine, now called ACP Medicine. Dr. Lebwohl has chaired numerous symposia and has written, edited, or co-edited several books including the first atlas devoted entirely to cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease, and the leading book on dermatologic therapy, Treatment of Skin Disease. The second edition of The Skin and Systemic Disease has been published in English and in French, and English, Portuguese, and Polish versions of Treatment of Skin Disease have been published. Other books include Difficult Diagnoses in Dermatology, Psoriasis, Mild-to-Moderate Psoriasis and Moderate-to-Severe Psoriasis. He has authored or co-authored over 500 publications including peer-reviewed articles, invited articles and book chapters. Dr. Lebwohl is actively involved in clinical trials of many new dermatologic treatments.
Marty E. Sawaya, MD, PhD, Physician and Research Scientist
Dr. Sawaya has been established in hair and sebaceous gland biochemistry for over 25 years. As a physician and research scientist, her expertise is in steroid hormone biochemistry, as she continues her studies on the androgen receptor and its effect in androgen related skin disorders/diseases.
Dr. Sawaya has also been a consultant and research investigator for various industry and pharmaceutical companies. Previous experience also includes working in the biotechnology companies as a medical director using enzyme replacement therapy in adult and pediatric genetic diseases (Fabry’s, Gaucher, Hunter’s Diseases as well as Hemophilia A).
Dr. Sawaya has also been a volunteer medical writer for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN (2004 – current) and has written articles for the National Hemophilia Foundation.
Current research projects include continuing work in human hair biology by assessing the role of the androgen receptor on inflammasome and caspase factors as they affect apoptosis in the human hair growth cycle. Dr. Sawaya has over 50 publications as abstracts, papers, and books & chapters and has given numerous lectures and presentations worldwide.
Antonella Tosti, MD, Research Scientist and Professor
Antonella Tosti is a Professor of Dermatology and Director of the Allergology Unit and Nail & Hair Center, within the Department of Dermatology at the University of Bologna, Italy. Since 1988, her dermatological focus has been on allergology, clinical and basic aspects of hair and nail biology, aesthetic medicine. Her efforts are split between academic pursuits and clinical practice. Professor Tosti is President of the European Nail Society, Past President of the Council of Nail Disorders, and a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Dermatologic Association, North American Hair Research Society, European Hair Research Society, International Society of Dermatology, European Women's Dermatological Society, Donne Dermatologhe Italiane, European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Women's Dermatological Society among others. Well published, Professor Tosti has authored approximately 600 publications and 25 monographs, most notably here is her work on Finasteride.
Hans Wolff, Professor of Dermatology
Dr. Hans Wolff is working in the Department of Dermatology and Allergology of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, Germany.
From 1979 to 1986 Dr. Woff received his medical training in the Medical School of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich.
In parallel, from 1983 to 1986, he worked on his doctoral thesis in the field of andrology. The thesis entitled „Development of an ELISA for the Detection of Sperm-Antibodies“ was awarded the degree „summa cum laude“.
In 1989, Dr. Wolff started his residency in the Department of Dermatology, Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich. In 1993, he received his Board Certification in Dermatology. In 1994, Board Certification in Allergology.
In 1994 he was appointed senior resident, 1995 assistant professor.
Since 2000 Dr. Wolff is Associate Professor of Dermatology.
His current specialties are clinical aspects in the field of dermatology, andrology and trichology.
Pascal Reygagne, MD, Dermatologist
Dr. Reygagne is Director of Centre de santé Sabouraud at Hospital Saint Louis in Paris. Centre de santé Sabouraud is a hair clinic comprised of 40 dermatologists who treat 2,000 patients a month. Dr. Reygagne has been with the clinic since 1995 and is the principal of clinical research in the field of androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, scalp psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, and cicatricial alopecia. Dr. Reygagne conducts 3 to 4 clinical studies every year. Each study involves a staff of 4 dermatologists and support staff for 20 to 100 patients.
Dr. Reygagne is a well-recognized national lecturer in the field of hair and hair loss and creator of a teaching CD on hair and scalp diseases. He has more than 35 posters and communications accepted in French and international congresses between 1990- 2008; has 16 English and 26 French publications in major medical journals; is a member of Revue Dermatologique du Cheveu; published co-author with P. Bouhanna of Pathologie du cheveu et du cuir chevelu (Masson éditeur, Paris, 1999); and contributing writer to Alopécies du traité de dermatologie (2001, éds MASSON ; direction du Pr. Dubertret), L’encyclopédie Médico-chirurgicale, and The Science of Hair Care chapter entitled “Alopecia” (edited by Bouillon C., Wilkinson J. Taylor, and Francis Group, 2005).
Dr. Reygagne is a Member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Expert of the national French agency for safety of drugs and health products (AFSSAPS), Member of the board of the European Hair Research Society, Expert of ANVAR (French national agency for research valorisation), and Member of the French Society of Dermatology.
Dr. Reygagne attended the School of Medicine at Necker Hospital, René Descartes University, Paris (1976-1983) and completing his Doctorate (1985) and Residency in Medicine and Dermatology at Internat des hôpitaux de Paris (1989). He completed his CESAM (Certificate of statistical sciences dedicated to medicine in 1987) and STARC (Statistics, option medical clinical research in 1987), and has a certification in dermatology (1989). Dr. Reygagne was Chief Resident (Fellowship) of Dermatology and Assistant at Hôpital Saint Louis (1989-1993).
Rodney Daniel Sinclair, M. B. B. S., M. D. , F. A. C. D.
Professor Rodney Sinclair is Professor of Dermatology at the University of Melbourne, Director of Dermatology at St Vincent’s Hospital and Director of Research and Training at the Skin and Cancer Foundation. He is a Past-President of the Australasian Society for Dermatology Research, the Skin and Cancer Foundation of Victoria and The Australasian hair and Wool Research Society. Prof Sinclair is the co-author of the section on dermatology in the Oxford Textbook of Medicine and the chapter on Hair Disorders in Rook’s Textbook of Dermatology. He has written 7 textbooks of dermatology, over 150 journal articles and contributed more than 50 book chapters.
His main research interests are female androgenetic alopecia, which was the subject of his M.D. thesis, the biology of the hair follicles and its related structures and genetics of skin diseases.
Iaisha Ali, MB, MSc(Oxon), MRCP, Dermatologist
Dr. Iaisha Ali is a dermatologist currently based in Oxford, United Kingdom. Dr. Ali received her medical degree from the University of Sheffield. She then completed her post graduate training in general medicine at the University Hospital Birmingham. She was awarded the Proctor and Gamble Research Fellowship by the Oxford Hair Foundation and commenced a research degree investigating genetic and hormonal factors affecting hair changes in the postmenopausal female including androgen receptor gene polymorphisms.
Dr. Ali completed a Master of Science degree at the University of Oxford. She has published widely on the subject of post menopausal hair changes and hirsutism including international presentations at the European and Intercontinental Hair Research Society meetings.
Having completed her dermatology residency in Oxford, Dr. Ali has a continued specialist interest in hair disorders and has a number of on going research projects related to hair disorders in endocrinological disease. Dr. Ali is currently a member of the Royal College of Physicians and the British Association of Dermatologists.
Errol P. Prens, Professor, MD, PhD
Errol Prens (1956) earned his MD degree in 1981 at the University of Groningen and became a certified Dermatologist in 1985 after receiving his training in the department of Dermatology and Venerology in the former Dijkzigt Hospital and Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He joined the department of Immunology of the same university for research on skin inflammation, resulting in his thesis ‘Immunopathophysiology of psoriasis; studies on accessory cells, cytokines and their receptors’, Erasmus University Rotterdam (1992). Certification as an Immunologist followed in 1993 (SMWBO). He combined his position as a postdoctoral fellow and leader of the Experimental Immunodermatology group in the department of Immunology of the Erasmus MC, with his clinical tasks as an all-round dermatologist in Ziekenhuis Walcheren in Vlissingen. He is a reviewer for several international dermatological and immunological journals, co-founder and board member of the Dutch Society for Experimental Dermatology, and member of the scientific committee of the international congress “Psoriasis from Gene to Clinic” in London.
Omar Lupi da Rosa Santos
Dr. Lupi is a Professor of Dermatology at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro and Fluminense Federal University, a research associate at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, professor of graduate studies at the University Federal of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Universidade Federal Fluminense and the Post-graduate Medical Institute Carlos Chagas. He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, International Journal of Dermatology and the Brazilian Annals of Dermatology. He has won several awards from the Latino American College of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology. He received degrees from the University of Rio de Janeiro, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and received his post-doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch, with specialties in Applied and Medical Microbiology.
Chang-Hun Huh, MD, PhD
Dr. Huh is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. He graduated from Seoul National University, College of Medicine and earned his PhD Degree at the Graduate School of Seoul National University, College of Medicine in stem cell research.
He served in the military as an Army Doctor for 3 years and finished 4 years of resident courses in the Department of Dermatology, Seoul National University Hospital.
He received the Imrich Sarkany Non-European Exceptional Cases Grant awarded by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology in 2006 during the 15th EADV Meeting.
He has served for many years as the treasurer of the Korean Hair Research Society, the Korean Society for Aesthetic and Dermatologic Surgery, and the Korean Society of Dermatologic Laser Surgery.
He is one of the most well known specialists on hair disease and dermatologic surgery in Korea. He has written several book chapters in Korean texts, including “Hair Loss” Chapter in Vitamin, “Perfect Encyclopedia of Hair”, “Having more hairs”, “Cosmetic Management Success Strategies”, “Surgical Instrument” and “Cryosurgery” Chapters in Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery, and “Chapter 3. Potential Adverse Effects after Procedures in Ethnic Skin” in Cosmetic Dermatology in Skin of Color for doctors.
He is a key advisor and appears as a guest on "ASK DOCTOR" segments on KBS, MBC, SBS, the three major Korean broadcasting companies, and the educational channel EBS. He is frequently quoted in articles in the health section of major Korean newspapers.
Torello Lotti, MD
Dr. Lotti is Chairman of the Dermatology and Venereology Division at the University of Florence School of Medicine in Florence, Italy. He is currently President of the Italian Society of Dermatology and Venereology (SIDeMaST, 2009-2012) and President of the International Society of Dermatology (ISD, 2009-2013).
Dr. Lotti graduated Cum Laude in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Florence School of Medicine and completed residencies in Dermatology and Venereology, Cum Laude, at the same School. He completed post-graduate work in 1984 at the Dermatology Institute, London, UK.
Professor Lotti has conducted specialized research in the fields of Neuropeptides, Bitiligo,Vasculitis, Psoriasis, CosmeticDermatology and Dermatologic Fisiotherapy.
He is a visiting Professor & Director at the International Centre for Balneology, Cell Biology, and Physiotherapy at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia (PA, USA), and a visiting Professor of Dermatology at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic; Bowman Gray University, Winston Salem (NC, USA); University of Louisville, Louisville (KY, USA); Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston (SC,USA). He has received the University Medal from Charles University, Czech Republic and is a Key Note Lecturer for the Japanese Society of Cosmetic Dermatology.
